An-Najm 1

وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ﴿١﴾

Waalnnajmi itha hawa

By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 2

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ ﴿٢﴾

Ma dalla sahibukum wama ghawa

Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 3

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ ﴿٣﴾

Wama yantiqu AAani alhawa

Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 4

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌ يُوحَىٰ ﴿٤﴾

In huwa illa wahyun yooha

It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 5

عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ ﴿٥﴾

AAallamahu shadeedu alquwa

He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 6

ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَٱسْتَوَىٰ ﴿٦﴾

Thoo mirratin faistawa

Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 7

وَهُوَ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ﴿٧﴾

Wahuwa bialofuqi alaAAla

While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, The Noble Quran

An-Najm 8

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ ﴿٨﴾

Thumma dana fatadalla

Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, The Noble Quran

An-Najm 9

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

Fakana qaba qawsayni aw adna

And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, The Noble Quran

An-Najm 10

فَأَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِۦ مَآ أَوْحَىٰ ﴿١٠﴾

Faawha ila AAabdihi ma awha

So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 11

مَا كَذَبَ ٱلْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ ﴿١١﴾

Ma kathaba alfuadu ma raa

The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 12

أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ ﴿١٢﴾

Afatumaroonahu AAala ma yara

Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 13

وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ ﴿١٣﴾

Walaqad raahu nazlatan okhra

And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 14

عِندَ سِدْرَةِ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ ﴿١٤﴾

AAinda sidrati almuntaha

Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], The Noble Quran

An-Najm 15

عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰٓ ﴿١٥﴾

AAindaha jannatu almawa

Near it is the Paradise of Abode. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 16

إِذْ يَغْشَى ٱلسِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ ﴿١٦﴾

Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha

When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! The Noble Quran

An-Najm 17

مَا زَاغَ ٱلْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ﴿١٧﴾

Ma zagha albasaru wama tagha

The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 18

لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ ﴿١٨﴾

Laqad raa min ayati rabbihi alkubra

Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 19

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ ﴿١٩﴾

Afaraaytumu allata waalAAuzza

Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 20

وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ ﴿٢٠﴾

Wamanata alththalithata alokhra

And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? The Noble Quran

An-Najm 21

أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ ﴿٢١﴾

Alakumu alththakaru walahu alontha

Is it for you the males and for Him the females? The Noble Quran

An-Najm 22

تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰٓ ﴿٢٢﴾

Tilka ithan qismatun deeza

That indeed is a division most unfair! The Noble Quran

An-Najm 23

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّآ أَسْمَآءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَٰنٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ﴿٢٣﴾

In hiya illa asmaon sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wama tahwa alanfusu walaqad jaahum min rabbihimu alhuda

They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! The Noble Quran

An-Najm 24

أَمْ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ ﴿٢٤﴾

Am lilinsani ma tamanna

Or shall man have what he wishes? The Noble Quran

An-Najm 25

فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿٢٥﴾

Falillahi alakhiratu waaloola

But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 26

وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغْنِى شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَن يَأْذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْضَىٰٓ ﴿٢٦﴾

Wakam min malakin fee alssamawati la tughnee shafaAAatuhum shayan illa min baAAdi an yathana Allahu liman yashao wayarda

And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He wills and pleases. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 27

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ٱلْأُنثَىٰ ﴿٢٧﴾

Inna allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati layusammoona almalaikata tasmiyata alontha

Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 28

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱلْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا ﴿٢٨﴾

Wama lahum bihi min AAilmin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wainna alththanna la yughnee mina alhaqqi shayan

While they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 29

فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ﴿٢٩﴾

FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAan thikrina walam yurid illa alhayata alddunya

Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Quran) and desires nothing but the life of this world. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 30

ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ ﴿٣٠﴾

Thalika mablaghuhum mina alAAilmi inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bimani ihtada

That is what they could reach of knowledge. Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who goes astray from His Path, and He knows best him who receives guidance. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 31

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَجْزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ بِٱلْحُسْنَى ﴿٣١﴾

Walillahi ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi liyajziya allatheena asaoo bima AAamiloo wayajziya allatheena ahsanoo bialhusna

And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, that He may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 32

ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِى بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ ﴿٣٢﴾

Allatheena yajtaniboona kabaira alithmi waalfawahisha illa allamama inna rabbaka wasiAAu almaghfirati huwa aAAlamu bikum ith anshaakum mina alardi waith antum ajinnatun fee butooni ommahatikum fala tuzakkoo anfusakum huwa aAAlamu bimani ittaqa

Those who avoid great sins (see the Quran, Verses: 6:152, 153) and Al-Fawahish (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) except the small faults, verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness. He knows you well when He created you from the earth (Adam), and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows best him who fears Allah and keep his duty to Him [i.e. those who are Al-Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2)]. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 33

أَفَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ ﴿٣٣﴾

Afaraayta allathee tawalla

Did you (O Muhammad SAW) observe him who turned away (from Islam). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 34

وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰٓ ﴿٣٤﴾

WaaAAta qaleelan waakda

And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? The Noble Quran

An-Najm 35

أَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ ﴿٣٥﴾

aAAindahu AAilmu alghaybi fahuwa yara

Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees? The Noble Quran

An-Najm 36

أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِى صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ ﴿٣٦﴾

Am lam yunabba bima fee suhufi moosa

Or is he not informed with what is in the Pages (Scripture) of Musa (Moses), The Noble Quran

An-Najm 37

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ ﴿٣٧﴾

Waibraheema allathee waffa

And of Ibrahim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allah ordered him to do or convey), The Noble Quran

An-Najm 38

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ ﴿٣٨﴾

Alla taziru waziratun wizra okhra

That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 39

وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ ﴿٣٩﴾

Waan laysa lilinsani illa ma saAAa

And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 40

وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُۥ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ ﴿٤٠﴾

Waanna saAAyahu sawfa yura

And that his deeds will be seen, The Noble Quran

An-Najm 41

ثُمَّ يُجْزَىٰهُ ٱلْجَزَآءَ ٱلْأَوْفَىٰ ﴿٤١﴾

Thumma yujzahu aljazaa alawfa

Then he will be recompensed with a full and the best recompense. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 42

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلْمُنتَهَىٰ ﴿٤٢﴾

Waanna ila rabbika almuntaha

And that to your Lord (Allah) is the End (Return of everything). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 43

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ ﴿٤٣﴾

Waannahu huwa adhaka waabka

And that it is He (Allah) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, and makes (whom He wills) weep; The Noble Quran

An-Najm 44

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا ﴿٤٤﴾

Waannahu huwa amata waahya

And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life; The Noble Quran

An-Najm 45

وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ ﴿٤٥﴾

Waannahu khalaqa alzzawjayni alththakara waalontha

And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female, The Noble Quran

An-Najm 46

مِن نُّطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ ﴿٤٦﴾

Min nutfatin itha tumna

From Nutfah (drops of semen male and female discharges) when it is emitted; The Noble Quran

An-Najm 47

وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ ﴿٤٧﴾

Waanna AAalayhi alnnashata alokhra

And that upon Him (Allah) is another bringing forth (Resurrection); The Noble Quran

An-Najm 48

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ ﴿٤٨﴾

Waannahu huwa aghna waaqna

And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), The Noble Quran

An-Najm 49

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعْرَىٰ ﴿٤٩﴾

Waannahu huwa rabbu alshshiAAra

And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); The Noble Quran

An-Najm 50

وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا ٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿٥٠﴾

Waannahu ahlaka AAadan aloola

And that it is He (Allah) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people), The Noble Quran

An-Najm 51

وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَآ أَبْقَىٰ ﴿٥١﴾

Wathamooda fama abqa

And Thamud (people). He spared none of them. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 52

وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ ﴿٥٢﴾

Waqawma noohin min qablu innahum kanoo hum athlama waatgha

And the people of Nuh (Noah) aforetime, verily, they were more unjust and more rebellious and transgressing [in disobeying Allah and His Messenger Nuh (Noah)]. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 53

وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ ﴿٥٣﴾

Waalmutafikata ahwa

And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 54

فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ﴿٥٤﴾

Faghashshaha ma ghashsha

So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 55

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ ﴿٥٥﴾

Fabiayyi alai rabbika tatamara

Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 56

هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلْأُولَىٰٓ ﴿٥٦﴾

Hatha natheerun mina alnnuthuri aloola

This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger) of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old. The Noble Quran

An-Najm 57

أَزِفَتِ ٱلْءَازِفَةُ ﴿٥٧﴾

Azifati alazifatu

The Day of Resurrection draws near, The Noble Quran

An-Najm 58

لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ﴿٥٨﴾

Laysa laha min dooni Allahi kashifatun

None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 59

أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ ﴿٥٩﴾

Afamin hatha alhadeethi taAAjaboona

Do you then wonder at this recital (the Quran)? The Noble Quran

An-Najm 60

وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ ﴿٦٠﴾

Watadhakoona wala tabkoona

And you laugh at it and weep not, The Noble Quran

An-Najm 61

وَأَنتُمْ سَٰمِدُونَ ﴿٦١﴾

Waantum samidoona

Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). The Noble Quran

An-Najm 62

فَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ﴿٦٢﴾

Faosjudoo lillahi waoAAbudoo

So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone). The Noble Quran
