Al-Alaq 1

ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ﴿١﴾

Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqa

Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 2

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ﴿٢﴾

Khalaqa alinsana min AAalaqin

Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 3

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ ﴿٣﴾

Iqra warabbuka alakramu

Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 4

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ﴿٤﴾

Allathee AAallama bialqalami

Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 5

عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ﴿٥﴾

AAallama alinsana ma lam yaAAlam

Has taught man that which he knew not. The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 6

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ ﴿٦﴾

Kalla inna alinsana layatgha

Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 7

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ ﴿٧﴾

An raahu istaghna

Because he considers himself self-sufficient. The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 8

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ ﴿٨﴾

Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa

Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 9

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

Araayta allathee yanha

Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 10

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ ﴿١٠﴾

AAabdan itha salla

A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 11

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ﴿١١﴾

Araayta in kana AAala alhuda

Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 12

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ ﴿١٢﴾

Aw amara bialttaqwa

Or enjoins piety? The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 13

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ﴿١٣﴾

Araayta in kaththaba watawalla

Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 14

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ ﴿١٤﴾

Alam yaAAlam bianna Allaha yara

Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 15

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ ﴿١٥﴾

Kalla lain lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati

Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 16

نَاصِيَةٍ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ ﴿١٦﴾

Nasiyatin kathibatin khatiatin

A lying, sinful forelock! The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 17

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ ﴿١٧﴾

FalyadAAu nadiyahu

Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 18

سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ ﴿١٨﴾

SanadAAu alzzabaniyata

We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! The Noble Quran

Al-Alaq 19

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ﴿١٩﴾

Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib

Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! The Noble Quran
