Al-Ma'aarij 1

سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ﴿١﴾

Saala sailun biAAathabin waqiAAin

A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 2

لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ ﴿٢﴾

Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAAun

Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 3

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ ﴿٣﴾

Mina Allahi thee almaAAariji

From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 4

تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ﴿٤﴾

TaAAruju almalaikatu waalrroohu ilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfa sanatin

The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 5

فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا ﴿٥﴾

Faisbir sabran jameelan

So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 6

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا ﴿٦﴾

Innahum yarawnahu baAAeedan

Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 7

وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا ﴿٧﴾

Wanarahu qareeban

But We see it (quite) near. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 8

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ ﴿٨﴾

Yawma takoonu alssamao kaalmuhli

The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 9

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ﴿٩﴾

Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni

And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 10

وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا ﴿١٠﴾

Wala yasalu hameemun hameeman

And no friend will ask of a friend, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 11

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ ﴿١١﴾

Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu law yaftadee min AAathabi yawmiithin bibaneehi

Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 12

وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ ﴿١٢﴾

Wasahibatihi waakheehi

And his wife and his brother, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 13

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ ﴿١٣﴾

Wafaseelatihi allatee tuweehi

And his kindred who sheltered him, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 14

وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ ﴿١٤﴾

Waman fee alardi jameeAAan thumma yunjeehi

And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 15

كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ ﴿١٥﴾

Kalla innaha latha

By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 16

نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ ﴿١٦﴾

NazzaAAatan lilshshawa

Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 17

تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ﴿١٧﴾

TadAAoo man adbara watawalla

Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allah, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 18, Page 289] The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 18

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ ﴿١٨﴾

WajamaAAa faawAAa

And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 19

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا ﴿١٩﴾

Inna alinsana khuliqa halooAAan

Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 20

إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا ﴿٢٠﴾

Itha massahu alshsharru jazooAAan

Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 21

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا ﴿٢١﴾

Waitha massahu alkhayru manooAAan

And niggardly when good touches him; The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 22

إِلَّا ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ ﴿٢٢﴾

Illa almusalleena

Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 23

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُونَ ﴿٢٣﴾

Allatheena hum AAala salatihim daimoona

Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 24

وَٱلَّذِينَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ ﴿٢٤﴾

Waallatheena fee amwalihim haqqun maAAloomun

And those in whose wealth there is a known right, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 25

لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ ﴿٢٥﴾

Lilssaili waalmahroomi

For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 26

وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ ﴿٢٦﴾

Waallatheena yusaddiqoona biyawmi alddeeni

And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 27

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ ﴿٢٧﴾

Waallatheena hum min AAathabi rabbihim mushfiqoona

And those who fear the torment of their Lord, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 28

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ ﴿٢٨﴾

Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru mamoonin

Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 29

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَٰفِظُونَ ﴿٢٩﴾

Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoona

And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 30

إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَٰنُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ ﴿٣٠﴾

Illa AAala azwajihim aw ma malakat aymanuhum fainnahum ghayru maloomeena

Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 31

فَمَنِ ٱبْتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْعَادُونَ ﴿٣١﴾

Famani ibtagha waraa thalika faolaika humu alAAadoona

But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 32

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَٰعُونَ ﴿٣٢﴾

Waallatheena hum liamanatihim waAAahdihim raAAoona

And those who keep their trusts and covenants; The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 33

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُونَ ﴿٣٣﴾

Waallatheena hum bishahadatihim qaimoona

And those who stand firm in their testimonies; The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 34

وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ ﴿٣٤﴾

Waallatheena hum AAala salatihim yuhafithoona

And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 35

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ ﴿٣٥﴾

Olaika fee jannatin mukramoona

Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 36

فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾

Famali allatheena kafaroo qibalaka muhtiAAeena

So what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten to listen from you (O Muhammad SAW), in order to belie you and to mock at you, and at Allah's Book (this Quran). The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 37

عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ ﴿٣٧﴾

AAani alyameeni waAAani alshshimali AAizeena

(Sitting) in groups on the right and on the left (of you, O Muhammad SAW)? The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 38

أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ ﴿٣٨﴾

AyatmaAAu kullu imriin minhum an yudkhala jannata naAAeemin

Does every man of them hope to enter the Paradise of delight? The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 39

كَلَّآ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣٩﴾

Kalla inna khalaqnahum mimma yaAAlamoona

No, that is not like that! Verily, We have created them out of that which they know! The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 40

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْمَشَٰرِقِ وَٱلْمَغَٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَٰدِرُونَ ﴿٤٠﴾

Fala oqsimu birabbi almashariqi waalmagharibi inna laqadiroona

So I swear by the Lord of all [the three hundred and sixty (360)] points of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west that surely We are Able The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 41

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ ﴿٤١﴾

AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wama nahnu bimasbooqeena

To replace them by (others) better than them; and We are not to be outrun. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 42

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ ﴿٤٢﴾

Fatharhum yakhoodoo wayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee yooAAadoona

So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they meet their Day which they are promised. The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 43

يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ ﴿٤٣﴾

Yawma yakhrujoona mina alajdathi siraAAan kaannahum ila nusubin yoofidoona

The Day when they will come out of the graves quickly as racing to a goal, The Noble Quran

Al-Ma'aarij 44

خَٰشِعَةً أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ ﴿٤٤﴾

KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allathee kanoo yooAAadoona

With their eyes lowered in fear and humility, ignominy covering them (all over)! That is the Day which they were promised! The Noble Quran
