Abasa 1

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ﴿١﴾

AAabasa watawalla

(The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, The Noble Quran

Abasa 2

أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ ﴿٢﴾

An jaahu alaAAma

Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). The Noble Quran

Abasa 3

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ ﴿٣﴾

Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka

But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? The Noble Quran

Abasa 4

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ ﴿٤﴾

Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra

Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? The Noble Quran

Abasa 5

أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ ﴿٥﴾

Amma mani istaghna

As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, The Noble Quran

Abasa 6

فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ ﴿٦﴾

Faanta lahu tasadda

To him you attend; The Noble Quran

Abasa 7

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ ﴿٧﴾

Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka

What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). The Noble Quran

Abasa 8

وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ ﴿٨﴾

Waamma man jaaka yasAAa

But as to him who came to you running. The Noble Quran

Abasa 9

وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ ﴿٩﴾

Wahuwa yakhsha

And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), The Noble Quran

Abasa 10

فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ ﴿١٠﴾

Faanta AAanhu talahha

Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, The Noble Quran

Abasa 11

كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ ﴿١١﴾

Kalla innaha tathkiratun

Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, The Noble Quran

Abasa 12

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ﴿١٢﴾

Faman shaa thakarahu

So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. The Noble Quran

Abasa 13

فِى صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ ﴿١٣﴾

Fee suhufin mukarramatin

(It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). The Noble Quran

Abasa 14

مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ ﴿١٤﴾

MarfooAAatin mutahharatin

Exalted (in dignity), purified, The Noble Quran

Abasa 15

بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍ ﴿١٥﴾

Biaydee safaratin

In the hands of scribes (angels). The Noble Quran

Abasa 16

كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍ ﴿١٦﴾

Kiramin bararatin

Honourable and obedient. The Noble Quran

Abasa 17

قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ ﴿١٧﴾

Qutila alinsanu ma akfarahu

Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! The Noble Quran

Abasa 18

مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ ﴿١٨﴾

Min ayyi shayin khalaqahu

From what thing did He create him? The Noble Quran

Abasa 19

مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ ﴿١٩﴾

Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu

From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; The Noble Quran

Abasa 20

ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ ﴿٢٠﴾

Thumma alssabeela yassarahu

Then He makes the Path easy for him; The Noble Quran

Abasa 21

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ ﴿٢١﴾

Thumma amatahu faaqbarahu

Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; The Noble Quran

Abasa 22

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ ﴿٢٢﴾

Thumma itha shaa ansharahu

Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). The Noble Quran

Abasa 23

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ ﴿٢٣﴾

Kalla lamma yaqdi ma amarahu

Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. The Noble Quran

Abasa 24

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ ﴿٢٤﴾

Falyanthuri alinsanu ila taAAamihi

Then let man look at his food, The Noble Quran

Abasa 25

أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّا ﴿٢٥﴾

Anna sababna almaa sabban

That We pour forth water in abundance, The Noble Quran

Abasa 26

ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّا ﴿٢٦﴾

Thumma shaqaqna alarda shaqqan

And We split the earth in clefts, The Noble Quran

Abasa 27

فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا ﴿٢٧﴾

Faanbatna feeha habban

And We cause therein the grain to grow, The Noble Quran

Abasa 28

وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا ﴿٢٨﴾

WaAAinaban waqadban

And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), The Noble Quran

Abasa 29

وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا ﴿٢٩﴾

Wazaytoonan wanakhlan

And olives and date-palms, The Noble Quran

Abasa 30

وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًا ﴿٣٠﴾

Wahadaiqa ghulban

And gardens, dense with many trees, The Noble Quran

Abasa 31

وَفَٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا ﴿٣١﴾

Wafakihatan waabban

And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), The Noble Quran

Abasa 32

مَّتَٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَٰمِكُمْ ﴿٣٢﴾

MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum

(To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. The Noble Quran

Abasa 33

فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ ﴿٣٣﴾

Faitha jaati alssakhkhatu

Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), The Noble Quran

Abasa 34

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ ﴿٣٤﴾

Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi

That Day shall a man flee from his brother, The Noble Quran

Abasa 35

وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ ﴿٣٥﴾

Waommihi waabeehi

And from his mother and his father, The Noble Quran

Abasa 36

وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ ﴿٣٦﴾

Wasahibatihi wabaneehi

And from his wife and his children. The Noble Quran

Abasa 37

لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ﴿٣٧﴾

Likulli imriin minhum yawmaithin shanun yughneehi

Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. The Noble Quran

Abasa 38

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ ﴿٣٨﴾

Wujoohun yawmaithin musfiratun

Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). The Noble Quran

Abasa 39

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ ﴿٣٩﴾

Dahikatun mustabshiratun

Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). The Noble Quran

Abasa 40

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ ﴿٤٠﴾

Wawujoohun yawmaithin AAalayha ghabaratun

And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; The Noble Quran

Abasa 41

تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ﴿٤١﴾

Tarhaquha qataratun

Darkness will cover them, The Noble Quran

Abasa 42

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ ﴿٤٢﴾

Olaika humu alkafaratu alfajaratu

Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). The Noble Quran
